Capability

Heavy-duty and large format packaging.

Pallet boxes, octabins, triple wall cases and oversized constructions for products that are too heavy, too large or too valuable for standard corrugated. Specified by RightBox, supplied through the partner manufacturing sites equipped for this work.

Formats

What heavy-duty covers.

Six constructions account for most heavy-duty requirements. The right one depends on the product, the handling equipment and how the load is stored.

Pallet boxes

Base, sleeve and lid constructions in standard UK, Euro and bespoke pallet footprints. Opening fronts, access cut-outs and internal fittings where the packing process needs them.

FEFCO 0306

Octabins

Eight-sided bulk containers for free-flowing and loose products, stable under load and quick to fill on line.

Discuss octabins

Shuttle packs & returnable formats

Constructions built for repeat trips between sites, where packaging does more than one journey.

Discuss returnables

Triple wall transit cases

Heavy, dense or high-value products travelling long distances, where single and double wall will not hold the load.

FEFCO 0203

Pick bins & parts containers

Open-fronted bins for picking operations, production lines and parts storage.

Discuss pick bins

Extra-large cases

Oversized products that fall outside standard case sizes, including bulky and awkward shapes.

Specification

What decides the construction.

Heavy-duty packaging fails in predictable ways. These are the factors that decide whether it holds.

Load weight and density

What the box carries, and whether the product itself takes any of the stacking load.

Stacking and storage

How high loads are stacked, how long they sit, and whether storage is humid or chilled. Board loses compression strength as it absorbs moisture.

Handling equipment

Forklift, pallet truck or manual handling, and whether the pack needs access openings for picking.

Pallet footprint

UK, Euro or a bespoke base, and how the pack fits the vehicle it travels in.

Journey

Single trip, export, or repeated journeys between sites, which points towards returnable constructions.

Print requirement

Heavy-duty board is usually printed in one or two colours. Full-colour retail print needs a different board and a different plant.

How it is supplied

Specified once, supplied consistently.

  • Structural design and CAD drawings before anything is made
  • Physical samples produced and approved ahead of production
  • Constructions supplied flat for storage, erected at the point of use
  • Internal fittings, partitions and foam combinations where protection demands it
  • Placed with the partner site equipped for the board grade and size involved
  • Call-off and stock arrangements so large formats do not fill your warehouse

Plan the load before you specify.

Two of our tools are built for exactly this: working out what fits a pallet, and checking the board grade will carry it.

Questions

Common questions.

What is triple wall corrugated and when do I need it?

Triple wall is three layers of fluting between four liners. It is used where double wall will not carry the load: heavy or dense products, tall stacks, long export journeys, or anything where the box takes the weight rather than the product. The Box Finder will give an indicative grade, and we confirm it against your actual load.

What size can a pallet box be?

Pallet boxes are built around the pallet footprint, most commonly UK or Euro, with bespoke bases where the product needs one. Maximum size depends on the board grade and the plant making it, so we confirm it per specification rather than quoting a universal limit.

Can heavy-duty packaging be printed?

Yes, typically in one or two colours for handling marks, part numbers, branding and compliance information. Full-colour photographic print needs a different board and a different manufacturing route, which we would place elsewhere in the network.

Do you supply returnable or multi-trip packaging?

Yes. Where packaging makes repeat journeys between sites, constructions can be designed for multiple trips, which changes the economics considerably on closed-loop routes.

Does RightBox manufacture these itself?

No. RightBox specifies and manages the supply, then places each requirement with the partner manufacturing site equipped for it. You deal with RightBox throughout.

Next step
